Disability Benefits

Income protection you and your family can count on

What Are My Options?

Disability benefits can provide income for you and your family if you are unable to work due to a covered circumstance. By having disability benefits in place, you not only have income protection but peace of mind. Taking advantage of both our short and long term disability plans will ensure that you are protected when there is a longer recovery period. This way, there is no lapse in income, and you can focus on your recovery.

Short Term Disability Insurance

Short term disability benefits provide partial income replacement in the event of a covered circumstance. This benefit can last up to 12 weeks and can be used for covered injuries, illness or childbirth.

Long Term Disability Insurance

Long term disability benefits provide partial income replacement for a longer period of time in the event of a covered circumstance. This benefit can last from months to years and may be used after short term benefits run out.

Do I Need Disability Coverage?

Disability coverage offers you and your family protection against the unexpected. If a covered circumstance prohibits you from work, disability coverage can keep income coming into the home while you recover.

Disability coverage is a good idea if you have dependents anybody that relies on your income to cover their basic living expenses. It also makes sense if you answer “no” to any of the following questions:

  • Can you afford to go without a paycheck?
  • Do you have enough savings to pay your living expenses for an extended period of time?
  • Do you have adequate disability coverage provided by a spouse, partner or work?

Long Term Disability*

Long term disability benefits can cover a portion of your income in the event of:

  • Illness
  • Physical injury
  • Medical/surgical recovery

* Actual coverage varies based on policy and what is considered a covered event, illness or circumstance.
